It is said, "Cleanliness is next to Godliness". One of the best ways avoiding chiggers and chigger bites is to keep a clean, well manicured or at least trimmed yard.

Keep you lawn mowed. Rake and remove all leaves and piled grass trimmings. Tim up those bushes and remove all the old dead branches and bush piles.

Keep weeds and grass cut away from any paths and fence lines.

Spray the yard where you may plan to occupy with this inexpensive but natural chigger repellent.

Use 4 tablespoons of dish soap and 4 teaspoons of vegetable oil per gallon of water or diluted Safe Solutions, Inc. Enzyme Cleaner with Peppermint (1 - 2 oz. per gallon of water).

A thorough soaking every few days will kill the chiggers, but not the eggs. If you will do this for a few weeks you will eventually get all the cycles of chiggers and should have a pretty much chigger free yard for all of those fun activities you have planned for the summer.

The very best chigger treatment for the home is to keep chiggers out of the home.

Chiggers enter the home most often when they are carried in by either pets or the human inhabitants.

Pets should not be allowed in the home after being allowed to run in chigger infested territory.

People should find a place to undress away from the bedroom and other areas where carpeting and upholstered furniture may be. The bathroom is a good choice. Chiggers cannot find much in a bathroom to want to live in or hide in, except your clothes. Unless you have a rain forest growing therein.

If you do not bring chiggers into your home you will not need to fight them off, as a rule of thumb.

After you take your chigger clothes off, get them into the washer as soon as possible. Give them a good friendly spa treatment. Lots of really HOT water and soap. Then dry them in the dryer on hot.

I do not like recommending hanging cloths on an outside line in the summer. Chiggers like to hang out where humans do. And they like dark colored things as well.

I also suggest using only set of clothes for outside activities so you only tend to contaminate one set of clothes.

It is not uncommon to find yourself suffering from chigger bites again and again, And you have not been where chiggers are. It is most confusing and frustrating to keep being attacked over and over and not know why.

If you do not wash your clothing properly you may find your socks and underwear are havens for chiggers. Chiggers will live forever in your sock drawer once they find their way in.

There are only two remedies for that. Burn them or do a load of laundry again. Wash everything that could be packing chiggers in HOT water and soap.

Wash you bedding, all if it and steam clean your carpets and any upholstered furniture if you need to to get rid of those chiggers.
